One of the things that has struck me as a new entrant into politics is how hard it is for voters to make an informed decision in selecting their public representatives. As your Councillor, I’ll work to develop a voter’s guide and reform the election process before the next local election. You can read more on my plans to improve election education and reform in my recent blog post.
Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council desperately needs a Green voice at the table to prevent further inappropriate development (such as the new Dun Laoghaire library) and to make sure that we consider issues around community amenities; public transportation; energy efficiency; and flood protection in any future planning decisions. The Green Party has always been the best at ensuring transparent planning processes and was the only political party that was actually complimented in the Mahon Tribunals. My education and experience qualify me to deal with issues around planning and rezoning in a way that benefits our community in the long-term rather than for short-term economic gains.
The larger political parties are well -resourced and have created an election system that favours the status quo. As a member a Party that receives no government or corporate funding, I’ve funded this campaign on a shoestring budget and faced an uphill battle to get elected. In order to bring my expertise to the Council, I need your first preference vote today.
I know that you have to trust the person you elect to represent you and that’s not an easy thing to do with a new candidate, so let me assure you that my intention as your Councillor is to do my best to make this community a healthier, more enjoyable place to live, work, and play. I took on this campaign because, as an environmental scientist and mother, I want to leave a better place for our children and grandchildren to live. I know I have the relevant skills to do so in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
Thank you so much for your consideration. Please keep in touch on any issues that matter to you, and also please consider my colleague, Eamon Ryan, for European Elections today. Eamon is the most sincere and knowledgeable public representative that I have ever met, and without a doubt, the most qualified candidate to represent us in Europe and create real change.
Wishing you a very happy election day!
Very Best,
Cara
